Card Processor Security Upgrade Coming For Republic Bank

Barbados, September 23rd, 2016 – A Card Processing system security upgrade is coming for customers of Republic Bank, which continues to lead the way in service and security enhancements to its Point of Sale and Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) infrastructure.

Republic Bank’s Manager of Information Technology Anderson Wade said the upgrade was currently in the initiation phase and was expected to be completed by July 2017.

“Our Card Processing management application drives our ATM and POS traffic, and the ongoing upgrade will ultimately result in a more robust, updated and improved internal security infrastructure. Customers can also expect the functionality at the front end to continue to be fast and reliable,” said Wade.

The Information Technology Manager said the upgrade of the software would ensure continuous compliance with forward-looking standards for credit and debit card transactions inclusive of the latest version of PCI DSS.

“Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a proprietary information, global security standard which governs the management of branded credit cards from all major card schemes”.

Republic Bank’s country-wide ATM network of “Blue Machines” is also being continuously upgraded to foil hackers, skimmers, or any kind of attack intended to steal cash or customer information.

Wade urged Republic Bank customers and ATM cardholders in general to act responsibly, since they are largely responsible for helping to keep their information secure.

“ATM cardholders are reminded never to share their personal PIN, and to be mindful of their surroundings, looking out for ‘shoulder surfing’ by potential fraudsters. We recommend that you hide your PIN numbers, look out for unusual objects on or near the ATM, and avoid having strangers assist with your transactions. Contact the Bank’s customer service department if you notice devices attached to keyboards, or any sign of adhesives in or around the card reader.”
